Democrats are putting out ads asking people to sign a petition to prevent President Trump from running in 2024. Obviously, I have a few things to say about that.

Recently, while reading a story where a CNN reporter asked why Biden was wearing a mask at an indoor news conference where everyone in attendance was vaccinated, I saw an ad pop up from the Democratic National Committee asking people to sign a petition to prevent President Trump from running again in 2024. Several thoughts crossed my mind at that point.

First, it was an obvious ploy to get donations. They know their base will be in favor of that, so by baiting them in with something so obviously heated, they can follow up with a plea for money...and probably get it.

But here's the thing. That's not how the 14th Amendment works. The Constitution clearly spells out that if someone is GUILTY of participating in an insurrection, that that person may not hold federal office.

The key word there is "guilty."

President Trump was impeached, yes. But that is like a federal indictment. It's just an accusation. Think of it like "Law and Order," the TV show. The first half of the show lets viewers see the investigation by police. They gather the evidence and, when they feel they have sufficient evidence to convict someone, they make an arrest. Then it moves to the "Order" part of the show.

In the second half of the show, the lawyers work on the case and there's a trial. The prosecutors work with the police to ensure the evidence is presented well and, if the person is convicted, they are sentenced.

According to our rules of impeachment spelled out in our Constitution, the House of Representatives acts as the "Law" side of the process. They investigate the alleged crimes that the President has committed and decide if there is enough evidence to warrant an official accusation. If there is, the process moves to the Senate which acts as the "Order" side of the process.

During the Senate trial, the evidence is presented by the prosecution and the Senate, as a whole, determines if the President should be found guilty or not.

In the case of President Trump - in BOTH impeachment trials - he was found "not guilty." That is, the Senate made the determination that the president did NOT commit the crimes for which he was accused, or - at the very least - that there was not enough evidence to prove it.

The 14th Amendment does not say that someone accused of insurrection cannot hold public office. The only equitable way of determining if this amendment applies is through a court proceeding.

In the President's case, there WAS a court proceeding and he was found not guilty of the charge of insurrection. Therefore, the 14th Amendment does not apply and no amount of signatures on a petition will change that.

But there's a deeper issue here that we need to consider.

Why are the Democrats so concerned? While the petition is a ruse to raise funds, the fact is, the funds raised are to serve one main purpose: to defeat Donald Trump in 2024.

But why? Why would they need to worry about that?

After all, they claim that Joe Biden beat President Trump by a large margin in the 2020 election.

They also claim that President Biden is doing a fantastic job and has a higher approval rating than Trump ever had throughout his entire presidency.

If both of those things are true, then what is there to fear from a Trump 2024 campaign?

The truth is, they DO fear President Trump, and rightly so. Through his indomitable support of true patriots up and down the Republican ticket, he has secured THEIR support in 2024.

Meanwhile, Joe Biden is doing nothing to help his Democratic friends. In fact, quite the opposite. They have to spend much of their time and efforts defending the president to ensure he maintains that approval rating.

When the Democrats began their second impeachment process, I knew they were just trying to prevent a second term for President Trump. When they frequently used the word "insurrection," I knew they were going to try and use the 14th Amendment to have him removed from office and prevented from running again. I said then that the best thing they could do would be to allow the president to have his second term. Then, in 2024, with the right publicity and spin, they could possibly secure the office.

But they didn't do that. And now, they're paying the price with half the country believing that Joe Biden is an illegitimate president and looking to a former president for inspiration while campaigning for his 2024 return before he's even announced that he'll run again.

In short, the Democrats are scared. And that's why they're still wearing masks and pretending the pandemic is getting worse when everyone, including a CNN reporter, knows it isn't.
